DE-ESCALATION FOR THE Street: An introduction

This course is a short introduction to the basic concepts and practices of effective de-escalation and the most recent research on effective means of communicating and dealing with difficult public contacts, including situations involving domestic violence, mental health, and substance abuse.  It is designed to meet annual continuing education requirements for law enforcement officers of all kinds.  LEOs that want a lengthier and more complete course on de-escalation are encouraged to consider our live 8 hour hands-on de-escalation class which is offered on a regular basis.

INSTRUCTOR: Officer Jason Cvitanov

Detective Cvitanov is a 25-year law enforcement veteran.  His career began in California and he now works as a Police Officer in Omaha, Nebraska.  He served as an investigator for more than 19 years including more than 4 years in homicide.  He has extensive investigative experience in use of force cases including officer involved shootings and shooting incident reconstruction.  He holds 17 instructor certificates with most in force related topics.  He is a Force Science® Advanced Specialist and has provided expert opinions on use of force cases.   He is also a certified instructor in the practice of de-escalation by the Force Science Institute. 

This intro to de-escalation course is an ONLINE course that can be used remotely over a one year period as time allows officers to complete the training.  Once the officer has completed the training, he or she will receive a certificate of completion for training record keeping purposes.
